Spider-Man purists are about to wish they could sling a web and swing three years into the future. With the numerous live-action Spider-Man movies in recent years, it’s been a while since Spidey has been in his original animated form before a large audience. Though it will still be a while, Sony announced at CinemaCon on Thursday that an animated Spider-Man movie is planned for a 2018 release.
According to Time, the film will be written and produced by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who worked together on The Lego Movie and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. Meanwhile, the live-action Spider-Man will appear in theaters for a cameo in Captain America: Civil War in May 2016 and again for Marvel and Sony’s reboot of the franchise, which is scheduled for release on July 28, 2017. That’s three consecutive years of the iconic super-hero on the silver screen to get your Spidey senses tingling.
