The Uncollected Spider-Man/Black Cat/Doctor Octopus Epic Storyline.
In their feature featuring notable comics not collected into trades, CSBG spotlights an epic Spider-Man/Black Cat/Doctor Octopus storyline.

This feature is called "Almost Hidden." Even with this large amount of comic books that have been collected in trade paperbacks, there are still a number of great comic books that have never been reprinted in print (I'd say roughly 60% of them are DC Comics from the 1980s through the mid-1990s). So in this feature I spotlight different cool comic books that are only available as back issues (or digitally). Of course, the way things go, something I spotlight today might be collected tomorrow, but for right this moment, these comics have not been collected!

Spider-Man: Homecoming in Same Universe as Venom, Silver & Black Films

Spider-Man: Homecoming in Same Universe as Venom, Silver & Black Films

In an interview last April, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said that Sony Pictures’ Venom and Silver & Black films would not be connected to Marvel Cinematic Universe or to their version of Spider-Man. Director Jon Watts, who will helm the wall-crawler’s first MCU solo film, also insisted that Venom would not be connected to the MCU at all. However, while in an interview Filmstarts, Spider-Man:

Homecoming andVenom producer Amy Pascal said that Venom andSilver & Black would take place in the same universe asSpider-Man: Homecoming, which would mean they also take place in the MCU.

“Well, those movies will all take place in the world that we’re now creating for Peter Parker,” Pascal said while sitting beside Feige. “They’ll all be adjuncts to it. They may be different locations, but it will still all be in the same world. They will all be connected to each other as well.”
When asked if Tom Holland would appear in any of the films, Pascal responded, “There’s a chance. There’s always a chance. I think one of the things that Kevin has done with Marvel that’s so brilliant is bringing the fans along and making each movie seem like a chapter in a book that you have to read in order to go forward, and I think the investment that the fans get to feel in being part of a larger story and understanding what’s happening is something that I know Sony would want to emulate.”
Silver & Black‘s and Venom‘s releases are still quite far out, so Holland appearing in those films is neither a foregone conclusion nor a certainty at this stage. However, Holland’s contract only specifies six films, three of which are solo Spider-Man films.
Two of the other three movies are presumed to be the upcomingAvengers films, Avengers: Infinity War and the currently untitled Avengers 4. The actor did mention that there are options in his contract that could be exercised whenever and used a cameo in an Avengers movie as an example, so it’s possible one of those options might allow him to appear in Venom or Silver & Black.

Leaked SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Call Sheet Confirms Bokeem Woodbine As The Shocker And More Roles

We finally have character names to give many of the supporting Spider-Man: Homecoming stars with one confirming a third villain, and another revealing a cool connection to The First Avenger .

Not too long after the true identity of Zendaya’s character was revealed, a call sheet for Spider-Man: Homecoming had surfaced online via Reddit from what appears to be a reliable source, although they have since deleted the original post from their social media. Anyhow, what’s revealed on the call sheet are many other surprising roles in the reboot.

In addition to confirmation that Fargo’s Bokeem Woodbine will be playing the supervillain Herman Schultz, better known as the Shocker, the Homecoming call sheet also reveals that The Nice Guys’ young breakout star Angourie Rice will be playing Betty Brandt. Which may or may not be the Betty Brant that appeared as Peter Parker’s co-worker at the Daily Bugle not just in the comics, but also the original Spider-Man trilogy portrayed by Elizabeth Banks.

Furthermore, the next cast members listed seemingly make up the faculty at Peter Parker’s Midtown Science and Technology School with Orange is the New Black star Selenis Leyva playing a Ms. Warren, comedian Martin Starr playing Mr. Harrington, fellow comedian Hannibal Buress playing Coach Wilson, and actor/singer Tunde Adebimpe as Mr. Cobwell.

Now what’s rather interesting at this point in the leaked Homecoming call sheet is that Kenneth Choi, who played the Howling Commando Jim Morita during the period setting of Captain America: The First Avenger, is listed as Principal Morita for the 2017 Marvel movie. It seems Choi will be playing the grandson of his First Avenger character; it’s all connected!  Given Jim Morita fought alongside Cap during World War II, and Tom Holland’s Spidey took on the Super Soldier, we might get some pretty interesting dialogue between the two.

The remainder of the Spider-Man: Homecoming stars listed on the call sheet are relatively unknowns, but they include Beasts of No Nation star Abraham Attah, Dark Tower actor Michael Barbieri, and The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete standout actor Ethan Dizon. So, you can see their roles and a few others on the call sheet below. What do you think?

Directed by Jon Watts, Spider-Man: Homecoming stars Tom Holland in the title role, with Zendaya (Michelle), Laura Harrier (Liz Allen), Tony Revolori (Flash Thompson), Jacob Batalon (Ned Leeds), Bokeem Woodbine, Tyne Daly, Kenneth Choi, Martin Starr, Donald Glover, Logan Marshall-Green, Hannibal Buress, Selenis Leyva, Michael Mando, Garcelle Beauvais, Abraham Attah, Marisa Tomei (Aunt May), Robert Downey Jr (Tony Stark/Iron Man) and Michael Keaton (Adrian Toomes/ Vulture). The movie is scheduled for release July 7, 2017.

"Spider-Man: Homecoming" Adds Robert Downey Jr. !!!!

It's official: "Iron Man" star Robert Downey Jr. will reprise his role as Tony Stark for Marvel Studios and Sony's joint "Spider-Man" film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Downey has just closed a deal to appear in "Spider-Man: Homecoming."

It is unclear at this time if Downey's deal is just for "Homecoming" or includes multiple other Marvel Cinematic Universe installments. Prior to "Homecoming," the star was signed to "Avengers: Infinity War Part 1" and "Part 2."

Robert Downey Jr. Alludes To Possible Role In Solo "Spider-Man" Film

The new "Spider-Man" film will star Tom Holland in the title role, following the character's introduction in Marvel Studios' "Captain America: Civil War," which opens on May 6. It's the latest take on the iconic Marvel Comics character which has seen two previous incarnations at Sony, first played by Tobey Maguire and then by Andrew Garfield.

According to the report, "Civil War" establishes a relationship between Holland's Spider-Man and Tony Stark, which will then lead into "Homecoming."

"Spider-Man: Homecoming's" cast continues to grow after the addition of Laura Harrier, as well as Disney Channel star Zendaya, who recently confirmed reports that she has joined the film's cast. According to the initial report, Zendaya will play a "key role" as a character named Michelle. Additionally, Tony Revolori recently joined the cast as "part of Peter Parker’s high school crowd." Marisa Tomei is also on board to play Aunt May.

In February 2015, Sony and Marvel announced a deal to share live-action rights to the character, which were previously solely under Sony's control. Jon Watts is set to direct the movie, with a screenplay by John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein.

Spider-Man is scheduled to swing back into theaters in his own feature film on July 7, 2017.

Marvel's Spider-Man Will Not Be Another Orgin Story !!!!!!!

Sometime in 2016, the youngest version of Spider-Man yet will be introduced in a Marvel Studios movie. It hasn’t been announced officially but you can count on the character appearing in Captain America: Civil War, setting up for his own solo movie in 2017.

This of course, is the third live-action Spider-Man series to appear in theaters in a decade and represents another reboot of the story of Peter Parker. Sony Pictures, who own the film rights to the property and its long history of Marvel Comics stories, have partnered with Marvel Studios to try again at making Spider-Man one of the most prominent superhero movie characters (The Amazing Spider-Man films failed at this) and since this reboot will be the first time the character appears in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they’re starting with a very young Peter Parker. But don’t worry, they won’t be retreading the same territory.

It’s important to note, that while Marvel is looking to introduce a Peter Parker who’s in high school and only 15-16 years old, the next web-slinger adventure will not be another origin story.

That’s the number one concern in response to any news related to the next Spider-Man’s age. We’ve already seen the radioactive spider bite origin story twice onscreen and Marvel Studios is fully aware of this. In fact, the Spider-Man who will appear next year is already a super-powered hero trying to make a difference in New York. You just haven’t met him yet. Speaking with CraveOnline today at the Avengers: Age of Ultron press junket, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige explained how they’ll be handling the introduction of Peter Parker.

“In Spider-Man’s very specific case, where there have been two retellings of that origin in the last whatever it’s been – [thirteen] years – for us we are going to take it for granted that people know that, and the specifics.”

“It will not be an origin story. But, with great power comes great responsibility. It is inherent to who his character is. But we want to reveal it in different ways and spend much more time focusing on this young high school kid in the MCU dealing with his powers.”

“There is a young kid [already] running around New York City in a homemade  version of the Spider-Man costume in the MCU, you just don’t know it yet. [Laughs]“

By “reveal it in different ways,” Feige is essentially saying that Marvel won’t be ignoring Parker’s origin story, just that Spectacular Spider-Man (rumored title) just won’t be a film about how he got his powers and who he was before. Instead, when we meet Parker next year – a year before his own movie –  he’ll already be a hero in his own way. What the Spider-Man solo movie in 2017 can do is instead include flashback sequences and/or references to explain how he got his powers, similar to how Marvel’s TV division handled Daredevil’s origins in his new Netflix series. When viewers meet Matt Murdock in episode one, he already kicks ass and is a vigilante.

The “homemade” costume reference is also interesting statement because it could be a hint towards one element of the Marvel Civil War story where Iron Man (who’s rumored to appear in Spectacular Spider-Man) gives Spider-Man a new and more advanced costume.

For fans looking for an adult Peter Parker, think of it this way: This is the first time Spider-Man appears in the MCU so to start old would diminish the opportunity of keeping the character around long-term and take advantage of decades worth of stories, team-ups, villains, etc.. Not to mention, it wouldn’t quite fit the established film continuity if a famous superhero had already resided in New York for over a decade…

Comparisons have already been made to Harry Potter so it’s possible Marvel can be thinking super-long-term and that this new Spidey can be around for multiple phases of the MCU. Rumor has it, plans are already in place to have Peter Parker be the face of Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 while the other core heroes are unavailable until Part 2.
